A. Bierstadt

Albert Bierstadt is a 19th century painter, whose painted landscapes, surprisingly modern, have something that sticks fairly well with a world of fantasy.

Their author being dead for over 70 years, those paintings have fallen into the public domain and are now freely reusable. The one represented here in the vignette illustrates the header of this website.

To be quite honest, there is a controversy, or at least a topic of debate between the license of the work itself, the public domain, and the right to reproduce these images. Have a look at this excellent article for more explanations.
