Dev diary

Here are some news about my last developments.

Things are not progressing very fast, I would like to release version 1.0 of Mines of Elderlore before going on with Lands of Elderlore, and real life didn’t left me a lot of spare time and energy.

Anyway I’ve found a nasty bug that was roaming around from the beginning in MoE, and now keymovies are efficient at last. What are keymovies? Only records of previous play in the form of keypressed and random seeds that can be played back.

I’ve also coded some PHP and now high scores can be pushed to some website. This feature will be in the 1.0 release; I hope I’ll publish it soon! I think I should try to release soon and often, but that’s easier to say than to do.

Concerning this website, I’ve uploaded some screenshots in several image galeries; I’m still having a hard time mastering Drupal, but I progress slowly in my knowledge of this CMS.

Finally, I’ve migrated my laptop to Hardy Heron, the last Ubuntu release that was published some days ago. Most of the migration process consisted in backing up my data; once this backup done, it only took about an hour to install the new system, install the useful packages (Eclipse, pydev, pygame, numeric-ext, ocempgui, psyco), and find my usual development environment. This heron is very hardy indeed!

Hi! I am interested in the Python, but I have no experience in
    this area.
Tell what IDE you you use for creation of game? I download source codes of game, but do not know what IDE it is
    possible to see them.
Whether the help is necessary what that?

PS: I am sorry for my bad English)))

    Hello RavenHeart,

I use Eclipse with Pydev, it’s rather useful, free and open sourced.

But if you just need to browse Python source files, I would suggest to use Notepad++ under Windows, or gedit under Ubuntu.

You can post in french if you prefer ;-)

    Happy coding !

My harddrive died recently, and Mines of Elderlore 1.0b4 is one of the few games I’m loading on my new drive. Besides being my favorite Rogue-like, I’ve also enjoyed having the sourcecode available while learning Python.

If you’re still working on your Elderlore projects, I’m really looking forward to seeing where you go with future releases. But if you haven’t time or energy to go any further, that’s okay. Either way, you have my sincere thanks for the enjoyment provided by the current release of MoE.

    Cheers,
    Michael

    Hello Michael,

Better late than never, thanks for your comment! Anonymous comments are blocked by default, waiting for approval, and I’ve been neglecting this website for far too long.

Anyway I have been developing Mines of Elderlore in order to release version 1.0. Your comment makes me want to code more than ever, so thank you again!
